Painting the Lorax trees and scenery in the baby's Seuss nursery took a very long time!
Our baby's Dr Seuss Lorax book nursery theme design is based on our favorite Dr. Seuss story. We managed to time the project (and the baby) very well, as the story was just re-adapted and brought to theaters this year.
The first step in decorating the room was to plan which of our favorite characters would transition well from the pages of the book to the nursery walls.
We combed through the book and sketched out a design, keeping our furniture placement in mind.

Next, we projected the selected characters and trees onto the walls and sketched in the shapes using a pencil. This was more difficult than expected as the images were severely distorted in the process, but we managed to get the basic shapes, sizing and concepts down.
Then came the painting – and painting, and then more painting! We painted each color using paint samples from Lowe’s. (Using cheaper 8oz. samples saved us a ton of money and waste than if we had bought quarts or gallons, but the paint quality in some colors meant having to apply as many as four to five coats. We would recommend going with a higher quality for the color red, particularly. That color does not cover well! And, of course, you may need more than a sample to cover any large areas - the grass, sky, and water, for example.
After (weeks of) painting, we outlined and added the details in black around the shapes and characters using a combination of Sharpie oil-based paint markers, paint, and regular Sharpie pens.
The finishing touch our project was a wall decal featuring our favorite quote from the story – "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not."
Grandma created all of the custom Dr Seuss baby bedding, crib quilts and toys!
