I have some SENSATIONAL Dr Seuss nursery ideas to share! Our wall mural paintings and decorating ideas are based on the fact that my husband and I are huge Dr. Seuss fans.


Our dream was to design the room in such a way that our new baby would be entertained by our favorite storybook characters everywhere he looked.

After studying the illustrations and pictures from several Dr. Seuss books, we sketched scenes all over the walls of the room freehand that were inspired by the books.

After the basic layout was in place, then we starting the painting process using one to two coats of acrylic craft paint in bright colors just like in the books.

Finally we outlined all the scenes and added the finer details of our baby's Seuss nursery .

Now, when we step into the room, it is difficult to believe that we actually did all the artwork and that the unique mural design was our own creation!

The only supplies that we used to create the wall murals were pencils, a big eraser (that we wore down to the nub) and a limited number of acrylic paint colors that we bought from the craft store.

Pair the items we chose for our Dr Seuss nursery theme with some inexpensive paint, crafts supplies, time, patience and a whole lot of love and our baby boy's nursery theme is his own personal "Seussland"!

We could have taken the quick and easy route by using vinyl Dr. Seuss wall decals rather than painting our own artwork but we preferred to paint our own unique designs that you see in the pictures of the nursery.

Does anyone have any paint color recommendations for painting nursery furniture for a baby Seuss nursery? I've got most of the primary colors like red but that Robin's Egg (ish?) blue is giving me a lot of trouble. I can't seem to find a good match that is similar to the shade used in the book illustrations.

The OP had a point on painting the furniture, but I understand why you might not want to since you might be able to use it longer plan.

It's just that so much effort was put into the wall painting technique....and your Seuss characters are very nicely done...it would have been very interesting to see what such an artistic person might have done.

Your Dr. Seuss baby nursery painting ideas are absolutely precious! If only I were that talented, I would jump in and starting painting a Dr. Seuss wall mural with Cat and the Hat as the star right now!

There are so many kinds of nursery wall art that you can buy that's cute and cheap but an original design like yours is the very best.

I have one question; how in the world will you ever bring yourself to paint over it once the baby is older? I'm afraid that I would be stuck with a Dr. Seuss baby nursery theme for the rest of my life!

I have the same question about Dr. Seuss crib bedding collections as the other poster. Everybody has their own favorite book by this author and the number of characters that you might paint on your walls is practically endless.

There was a set of Cat in the Hat baby bedding available a couple of years ago but not everybody wants that color or that theme. And I have yet to see any one fish two fish baby bedding or other Dr. Seuss crib bedding collections to choose from.

I am very curious to see what you used as your great wall painting has pictures of so many Seuss characters.

Great nursery design, but we need more pictures.

I had questions about the Dr. Seuss baby items that you used to decorate the rest of your nursery. My husband and I would like to create a similar wall mural (using an overhead projector for the outlines because we just are not graphic artists).

Looking ahead, the challenge that we face is once the art is on the walls how do we decorate the rest of the baby's room? Do we use decorations that have pictures of the characters that we painted on the walls or just go for color coordination?

Could you please show more pictures of your Dr. Seuss nursery so that I can see if you decorated with Dr. Seuss baby items or exactly how you made the room work?
