My husband and I got married on the Isle of Skye in Scotland last summer. When we learned that we had a baby on the way I immediately went to work planning the design of our Scottish baby nursery theme. We didn't have much money to go out and buy a lot of stuff so I decided that it would be best to use paint and my artistic abilities to add the details and give the baby's room personality.
I created the large nursery mural using photos of the Scottish countryside taken on our honeymoon and pictures of our dogs. Staying in keeping with the colors found in the landscape of Scotland, I felt that grayed down colors would fit best with our Scottish baby nursery theme rather than bright primary colors or pastels. My palette selection was based on the colors from the photographs and my memories of the atmosphere on the island. For the painted blue sky mural and the scenery (clouds, flowers, bushes) on the nursery walls I used all latex paints, glazing liquid and glitter.
The painted island scenes including the farm animals and dogs seemed fitting. Some of the painted animals on the nursery's walls are Border Collies, Highland Cows and Sheep. Everything you see is very personal and right in line with the gender neutral room that we wanted.
The decorative accessories that we chose are farm animals and I have also displayed lots of Scottish books that I have loved and collected over the years as I am from Scotland.
I hope that you will vote for our pictures to win the baby nursery picture contest.
