Reach for the Stars! Solar System for Kids Ceiling

Planets - Solar System Ceiling Light Chandelier Fixture
My husband is an aerospace engineer (a "rocket scientist") so we were both very excited when we found this solar system to buy for the kids room that would share his love of space with our children during the early years. As far as the color scheme we chose is concerned, we already have a lot of blue featured in the decor of our home, so I didn't want to do the typical blue and yellow color scheme for the nursery.
After that decision was made, I found a rug at American Blinds and Wallpaper that had big yellow stars, and greens, purples, and blues. It was a lot funkier than a lot of the nursery rugs and stuff for babies that I'd seen, which (in my opinion) was a good thing! So, we pulled one of the green colors from the rug for the walls, and accented with yellow. We used a darker color of green for the curtains.
I found quilt fabric at Joann's that had a yellow background with small white stars, and we made a "French memory board" with star shaped buttons, green elastic tape, and the yellow star print fabric. The sheets and blankets on their beds are yellow and all of the furniture is white.
This year we added a mobile from Ikea that has a planet with rings, a rocket, and a bunch of clear plastic stars. We also added the "Moon in my Room" and "Solar System in my Room" from Amazon.com. There are glow in the dark stars on the ceiling. I wish I could fit more of the room in one picture, but the room itself is too small for me to get very much in. The good stuff, the stuff that goes with the theme, is all in this picture (except the rug, obviously).
From the webmaster: This ceiling light fixture would look great with some
solar system decals and a set of kids
outer space bedding! Thanks so much for sharing your
moon and stars nursery ideas with other DIY decorators that stop by
