Little Princess Theme Bedroom - Blakelyn's Private Castle Nursery

We call this our little princess theme bedroom rather than a nursery because we worked so hard at decorating it that it will have to last through our baby girl's early years and beyond. The thought of starting over at this point is simply unacceptable!




My wife already had our daughter's name picked out and an idea of what she wanted for the nursery when we learned that we were expecting a girl.


I'm pretty good with my hand and am not afraid of the occasional DIY project around the house so I told her that I would work with whatever design she wanted.

After my wife shared her thoughts and ideas for the detailed wall mural that she had in mind, I ran with it. In my opinion, the results we got from spending hours and hours planning and painting are perfect.

Little Princess Theme Bedroom Ideas

We agreed on a classic two-tone, pink Disney princess color scheme. We were initially going to feature all of the Disney Princess characters on the walls. I painted the walls and then applied self-adhesive Disney princess nursery wall stickers. When I finished, I didn't like what I saw. The effect was way too girly so I tore it all down and started over after getting some advice from a professional.




I have a very good friend that goes to my church that is an amazing artist. I asked him for tips on painting a wall mural in our baby girl's nursery and he agreed to not only give me advice but to help me paint.

I was just going to paint a background, apply some decals and maybe paint a castle on the nursery wall but then things took on a life of their own and grew into the beautiful painting that you see in the pictures.

My artist friend took our concept of a princess theme bedroom for our baby girl and made the nursery into a little girl's dream and we love it.

A Pink Nursery Chandelier for Our Baby Girl

An elegant nursery requires elegant lighting so we considered one of the beautiful crystal chandeliers that we had seen for sale. This was the plan until we learned that proper air circulation is important in a nursery. After we got the facts on this, we changed our minds and decided to buy a pretty, pink ceiling fan with a light kit.

The pictures that I have posted are just of the back wall of the nursery. What you don't see is that the entire room is painted and decorated just like what you see in the photograph. The painted scenery in the mural extends past the back wall and continues around the entire room.

The doors and the entry door are painted using a wood texture painting technique that looks just like wood grain.

We painted a saying on the nursery wall that says:

"Every child's life is a fairy tale written by God's fingertips."

We thought that we would make our own princess wall decorations since we didn't like the ones that we bought at the store.
