How to Decorate a Nursery Without Painting
by Jan
I live in an apartment like many parents and am searching for ideas for how to decorate a nursery without painting. Decorating a nursery without painting may seem odd to some since a nice, fresh coat of paint on the walls is a common starting point for so many.
But, we moms who live in rental homes and apartments often are not allowed to paint the walls.
I asked several of my friends for advice on how to approach this problem.

Most agree that if you paint the walls any color other than white or the color that was there before you moved in your house or apartment that you will have to repaint them before you leave or risk losing your deposit.
One friend lives in an apartment complex where tenants are prevented from painting regardless of the color. Another said that she was about to move and couldn't risk labeling one of the bedrooms as a baby's nursery as that would not be in the best interest of selling the property according to her realtor.
After thinking it over, here are a few tips and techniques that might help these ladies decorate a cute nursery for their baby where painting can't be part of the decorative process.
Removable Vinyl Nursery Wall Stickers are a Great Problem Solver for Renters Decals are colorful, cheap and if your wall has flaws they do an excellent job of camouflaging them. They will not damage the existing paint and are easy to peel off when you move.
Cover the Nursery Wall with FabricStaple cloth in any color or pattern that you choose directly under the crown molding to cover the walls completely. If you shop carefully for fabric, this method of decorating a nursery without painting is not prohibitively expensive.
Focal Points and AccentsDraw attention away from the walls altogether by locating your accent pieces elsewhere. Go all out on an elaborate crib canopy or decorate the area where the nursery rocker is located in such a way that it will immediately grab the eye. Do your best to make the walls unimportant in the decor.
It's true that most decorators put a lot of effort into the painting the nursery walls but figuring out a way to go about decorating a nursery without painting is something that must be dealt with in certain circumstances. But this in no way means that we have to settle for a nursery with no style or personality since we now know ways to give the wall an excellent look without paint!
