The meaning of the name, Caedmon is "wise warrior". My son was named after the Anglo-Saxon poet who first wrote hymns in the vernacular. The story goes that God gave him his first song in a dream one night and supposedly, if the nuns or monks gave him a scripture, he could turn it into song by the next morning.
The English poet's name and likeness are carved on a stone on a cliff in Whitby, England where the abbey once stood. The Welsh pronunciation gives the first half of his name a short "a" sound, but my husband and I preferred using a long "a" sound.

The story of Caedmon, who is said to be the earliest English poet whose name is known, is one of my favorites. How remarkable that an uneducated herdsman learned to compose through dreams!
I love that you chose the baby boys name Caedmon for your son.
