Cute Baby Nursery Curtains, Valances and Window Treatment Ideas
Leaving windows uncovered might be fine in every other room, but nursery curtains are not only decorative; they are practically an essential. When it comes to getting your baby to sleep soundly in the bright light of day you will quickly realize the importance of a good set of blinds or curtains.
I prefer my own baby room curtains in layers. My baby’s nursery faces west and gets the afternoon sun. This means the bedroom is nice and shady for the mid-morning nap with nothing but the sheers covering the window, but when the hot sun is blazing in the windows in the afternoon, I’m very thankful for the blinds and the sun blocking curtains. They keep the nursery dark enough for sleep and help out on expensive air conditioning costs in the summer.
BABY CURTAIN COMBINATIONS
Here is the combination curtains, blinds and window toppers that I use to decorate my nursery windows: - A room darkening, black out shade mounted with hardware inside the casing
- A pair of sheers
- Curtain panels
- A valance or topper
This combination of kids curtains and blinds not only looks great, but helps me to control the amount of light in the baby’s bedroom. I also believe that it makes the room more comfortable as far as temperature is concerned. Before I got the light blocking shades, the western facing room was much warmer than other parts of our house. To get the baby’s nursery cool in the summer, the rest of the house would be freezing.
BABY ROOM CURTAIN STYLES and COLORS
Of course you want your nursery curtains to blend perfectly. Most bedding sets offer a selection of matching curtains to make this job easier than ever before but if you have a window of an unusual size or shape, your only option is to have custom curtains made. Unless you want solid color panels, you may need to purchased sufficient drapery fabric by the yard to match your crib set at the time of purchase. It would be terrible to have your crib decorated beautifully and have to settle for less than fabulous, plain cotton nursery curtains.
CAUTIONS REGARDING BABY ROOM CURTAINS and WINDOW TREATMENTS
As with all decorative baby nursery fixtures, buy with your child’s welfare and safety in mind. You will not want : - floor length, trailing curtains pooling or lying in a puddle on the floor that baby might try to pull up on
- long cords within baby’s reach
- loose hardware, holdbacks or curtain rods that could fall on your child
